About
Gauri

WELCOME, FRIEND

It’s great to meet you.

Gauri Chawla (pronounced GORE-y CHA-v-la) is a bad Indian. On her blog, she regales her readers with stories about herself as child of courageous Indian immigrants, who traveled as students from their homeland to the United States, their eighteen-month-old daughter in tow, with only $200 in their pockets.
Gauri challenges the cultural norms of her family and Indian community in every aspect, from attending college away from home to earning a J.D. to rising to an executive vice-presidential position in the global company she works for and—perhaps most challenging of all—choosing to remain single until the right partner comes along. Despite her choices, Gauri’s loving parents unflinchingly have supported her, even if they didn’t understand them.
